The School of Business was created in 1995 by merging the former Department of Management Studies and the old Business School. This combination set the stage for the development of a flagship programme in Asia. The new School of Business was established for the purpose of developing Asian business education and is proud of its tradition of excellence in this field.

Professor David Tse is a Christian and the Chair Professor of International Marketing at the School of Business at The University of Hong Kong and one of its foremost professors teaching the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. He is a world-class scholar in international marketing, China marketing and services marketing.

Professor Tse is recognised globally for his research in China which includes investigating firm entry and branding strategies and how Guanxi and other cultural characteristics can enter into the formation of high performance marketing channels.

He founded the Chinese Marketing Institute which is a joint institute with Peking University and Fudan University, and the Chinese Management Centre at HKU which is a centre of distinction at the University. He also helped found the Asia Academy of Management as the founding vice president.

Professor Tse taught for 10 years at the University of British Columbia from 1984-1993 after he received his BBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and his MBA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1984. He returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and joined The University of Hong Kong in 1998. He has taught at universities in the US, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.

He is listed on Who's Who in International Business Education and Research, Marquis Who's Who in the World. In a survey, he is rated as the world's most prolific and cited scholar in China marketing and among the world's top researchers in International Business and Chinese management research.

Professor Tse's papers in consumer satisfaction, cross-cultural consumer research, cross-cultural marketing research, and in market entry strategy are among the most cited in their respected fields. His papers have been cited more than 2,500 times according to the Social Science Citation Index and over 5,500 times on the web on Google Scholar. He is top 1% cited scholar since 2009.

Professor Tse serves as an academic trustee in the Marketing Science Institute and is a board member of Sheth Foundation. He is also a board member and fellow of a number of other international institutes and centre. Additionally, he is actively involved in academic community, with present and past roles as consulting editor, department editor, advisor and reviewer for Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, and Harvard Business Review (China).

Since 2002, Professor Tse serves as an Honorary Professor of Marketing at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University and at Fudan University. On the professional side, Professor Tse had been a non-executive director in companies and he actively consults firms in China and Hong Kong.
