The first and the largest stablished in 1981, The Hong Kong University Students’ Union Rowing Club is the oldest university rowing club in Hong Kong. It is by far the largest rowing community in the territory. In 1986, it organised and invited the Chinese University of Hong Kong to join the annual Hong Kong Intervarsity Rowing Championship and, since then, the Championship has become the most traditional rowing regatta in Hong Kong, similar to the Ox-bridge Boat Race. 69 Alumni Networks E Strive for the best Every year, student rowers have a team kick-off ceremony to start their intensive training six hours a day, six days a week from June to the end of August at Shing Mun River in Shatin. When the academic year starts in September, training continues on weekends. The HKU rowers is a team of good spirit and sportsmanship. More than 500 rowing alumni continue to support the Rowing Club by coaching and joining the races and together, alumni and students have made signi cant achievements in promoting rowing among young people in Hong Kong. We will keep up with the spirit and serve as the bridge between the students and the alumni. Rowing is our lifelong sport. As alumni, we will continue rowing and build a strong alumni rowing team! Continue the pride 薪火相傳 We believe we should have done better, and we CAN! In 2012, the Rowing Club launched its fundraising campaign to replace a number of worn-out boats and deteriorating oars. The target is HK$2 million. After a year's hard work and with the support of the Rowing alumni and the University, the Club was able to have a new coxed eight boat. The target is yet to be met.
