Ruby Yang 楊紫燁 Hung Leung Hau Ling Distinguished Fellow in Humanities category in 2008. In 2003, she co-founded the Chang Ai Media Project (倡愛文化傳播) to promote AIDS awareness in China, with the aid of documentaries and public service announcements having been seen over 900 million times. Since 2013, she has joined HKU as the Hung Leung Hau Ling Distinguished Fellow in Humanities hosted by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, producing and teaching the making of documentary. Currently she is the Scholar-in-residence at Shun Hing College. Originally from Hong Kong, Ruby is a noted Chinese-American filmmaker whose work in documentary and dramatic film has earned her an Academy Award, two Academy nominations, and other numerous international awards. Her trilogy of short documentary films are all about modern China, including “The Blood of Yingzhou District” 《潁州的孩子》 which won an Oscar in 2007; “The Warriors of Qiugang” 《仇崗衛士》 , which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short in 2011; and “Tongzhi in Love” 《彼岸浮生》 , which was short-listed in the same The Scheme was launched in 2008 through the support of The Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation. It hosts visiting scholars, renowned in their fields, with the objective of enhancing and enriching humanities studies at the University, which in turn contributes to the art and humanities culture of Hong Kong.
