W ith his (Ian’s) inspiring leadership and administrative skills, we were able to secure the first accreditation exercise of the British Dental Council and putting our BDS degree on par with those in the UK and other Commonwealth countries. Nearly half of the dentists now practising in Hong Kong have been either taught or examined by Professor Davies. His leadership in Periodontology and Public Health made this one of the most prominent specialties in Hong Kong. Dr Sigmund Leung 梁世民 (BDS 1990) President, Hong Kong Dental Association I n recognition of his contributions to the Academy, the field of dentistry, the healthcare profession, and the community of Hong Kong as a whole, the Academy conferred an Honorary Fellowship upon Professor Davies in 2004. Professor Donald Li 李國楝 (MBBS 1980) President, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine I t seemed like yesterday when we presented the ‘Davies Cuff-links’ to our dear Vice-Chancellor and good friend Professor Ian Davies as he retired. To us he epitomised what the British Gentleman, Scholar and Poet should be like. He could have come straight from a classic movie or play.
