Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Humanities"I believe the humanities can enrich and illuminate our lives. Literature, music, history, philosophy, law, politics, social sciences, architecture and the arts ... are all important. I am honoured to be able to contribute this modest gift to the University as it celebrates its centenary. HKU embodies many of the values of the people and society of Hong Kong. May it continue to serve China and the world as a beacon of knowledge." Dr Sin Wai-Kin |

Dr Sin believes the humanities can enrich and illuminate people's lives. Literature, music, history, philosophy, law, politics, social sciences, architecture and the arts ... are all important. The Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Humanities is designed to attract scholars of top distinction to spend a period of time at the University. These extended engagements will have a substantial impact on the intensity and quality of interactions between these world-class scholars and teachers and students at HKU. With a generous donation of HK$20 million from Dr David Sin Wai-Kin, a permanent endowment to support the appointments of distinguished visiting scholars in the humanities has been established. To show the University's full support and to augment the impact of this initiative, the HK$20 million donation will be matched by the University to form an endowment of HK$40 million. Dr Sin hopes that through the Sin Wai-Kin Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Humanities, HKU will continue to serve China and the world as a beacon of knowledge. In addition, Dr Sin has donated HK$10 million to support The Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at HKU. |
